Miraculous Moments: Day #5 Jesus' Family
Miraculous Moments
Lent 2025: Day #5
~Matthew 16:15
Jesus is part of the divine family--the Trinity. Jesus was also part of a human family as a child of Joseph and Mary.
The earthly family is temporal; the heavenly family is eternal. Jesus invites us to follow him into his spiritual family--to be his brothers and sisters in faith.
"While they [Joseph and Mary] were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them."
Philippians 2:5-11
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God
something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death--even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father."
Matthew 12:46-50
"While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, 'Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.'
He replied to him, 'Who is my mother and who are my brothers?' Pointing to his disciples, he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.'"
Human families are complicated. While some are loving and nurturing, others are--not.
The passage from Luke is an account that shows Jesus was, in fact, born into a human family.
The passage from Philippians reminds us that Jesus set aside his divine being in order to become a human being.
Finally, the passage from Matthew reminds us that our eternal family is what truly matters.
Trust in Jesus and become part of Christ's eternal family.
